Professor Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, FRS, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, University of Cambridge in discussion with Professor Brian Foster, FRS

Brian and Venki will discuss the work on the ribosome that led to to award to Venki of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. They will also discuss the work of the Royal Society in science policy, and in particular the response to the Covid-19 pandemic. As President of the Royal Society until last November, Venki was a senior advisor to the UK government and a member of the SAGE committee. He had a front-row seat at the discussions that guided the government response on matters from lockdowns to masks and vaccines. There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience at the end of the session. Numbers are limited; if you wish to attend, please complete the “mailing list” page.
